Katelyn updates

Wow I havent been on here and forever. Where to start. Well Katelyn is now 4 months old. She is getting so big! She starting sitting up all by herself today! She also started rice cereal and vegetables this last week. Katelyn is now 15lbs and 5oz and 25 1/2 inches long. I am now a stay at home mom for awhile until we leave SC, which will be September 8th to head to our new home in San Diego. Matt got stationed on the USS Nimitz there. I cant wait to be closer to our family! We are taking a few side trips on our way back to CA. We are stopping for a few days in DC and also NY before we head that way. We are still looking for a place in San Diego but home to have one lined up by the end of this week. Matt and I will be celebrating our 3 year anniversary this Friday. We got a baby sitter so we will be celebrating by going on a dinner cruise. I cant wait. Well I guess that is it for now, I will post a few pics of Katy for all to see :)

Katelyn's Baptism

Katelyn was baptized Sunday morning at St. George's Episcopal Church in Summerville SC\ by Fr. Rick. He also baptized me in February on his 1st day as rector at our church. That was his 1st baptism. So now he has baptized 2 members of our family. Unfortunately, Katy's chosen godparents are both in California, so we had a nice couple from church, Jim and Brenda, stand in as "proxies" for them. Katy's godfather is James, one of Matt's best friends and brother from college. Her godmother is Catrina, my best friend back home.

Way over due....

After 3 days of labor I am finally had my baby girl! Some of you may know that I went into the hospital Wednesday April 2nd in the evening but was sent home after 7 hours, I was on bed rest all of Thursday and having contractions 5-10 minutes apart all day&night. Thursday I had to do some lab work at the hospital then call my dr to make sure the results were ok. They were checking me for preclampsia (sp) and were going to push my induction up if it came back positive. By this time my contraction were coming strong and about 3-7 minutes apart. At 10am when my dr called to tell me the results to my lab were fine I told her about the contractions and she said I could come in and she would check me out if I wanted to so of course I did. When I got there she checked me and I was dilated to a 4 1/2 so she said she was going to call L&D and send me over there to have the baby! By the time I got the L&D and checked in I was dilated to 6! After 2 hours I finally got my epidural but I hadnt seemed to dilate much more. I was only at a 7 when they checked me about 3 1/2 hours after I had been there so they decided to start me on some potocine (sp) to help things along and boy did they. After maybe an hour hour and a half my contractions were coming fast and strong and even with the epidural I was feeling them (not as painful of course). They decided to stop the potocine because the contractions were coming so close together and so strong. At that point I was fully dilated and almost ready to push. Around 9pm they had me start pushing and at 9:43pm Katelyn Jayne was born weighing 8lbs 7oz and measuring at 21 1/2 inches long. She is so wonderful and I am so happy to finally be a mom!

Well yesterday I spent the whole day in the ER and then up in L&D(labor&delivery). As some of you may know my grandfather passed away Sunday night and I have been taking it really hard especially since I am unable to be there with my family. Well Monday I started having what I believe were panic attacks (chest beating really fast and shortness of breath). I had them most of the day& night Monday and when I woke up yesterday morning I was still having them. Just to be safe I decided to call the dr office to let them know and to see if there was something they might be able to do (I had them a few years ago and at that time my dr gave me some drugs to help but I didnt think that was possible now since I am preggo). To my surprise the dr told me to go to the ER and get checked out. So off to the ER we (Marina was so nice to join me since Matt was in school) went. We got there at 9am and set in the waiting room until around 12pm waiting for a room to open up. Once in the room we waited another hour or so to see a dr who just listened to my heart which she said looked fine. My heart rate was a little high but she wasnt too worried about it. They had said something about an EKG and that worried me a bit but luckly they didnt have to do one. Then the dr said that it looked like the baby was on my lungs which could have been causing the shortness of breath. She said that she wanted me to go up to L&D to be monitored to make sure that the baby was ok since I also was having some cramping and pressure. So off to the L&D we went. I spend over an hour and a half up there being monitored and they checked to make sure I wasnt dilating yet (which I am not). Then they came in and said that everything looked ok and that I could go home but to take it easy and to make sure I called the dr again if I was having anymore pain or if I was having any of the other labor symptoms. So that was my exciting day. I really dont want to have to do that again anytime soon.

Some of you may know that since we have been in South Carolina Matt and I have been trying to find a church to attend. When we first moved here we were driving downtown to attend St. Paul’s but the drive and parking every Sunday was just too much for us. We started trying to find a Episcopal church closer to home but weren’t really having much luck. Last week Matt did some searching and found St. George's in Summerville (just down the street from where I work) so we decided to give it a try. Matt and I both enjoyed the service and after talking it over decided that St. George was the church for us here in SC. This Sunday (February 3rd) after the service Matt asked one of the rectors if we could speak with them about joining the church and a few other things. Also on Sunday Bishop Salmon was at the service and we ended up getting to talk with him. Matt told him how we had been looking for a church and that we would like to join St. George and also that I was looking to get baptized. My Mom is Catholic and my Dad attended an Assembly of God church growing up and when my brother and I were born they did not have us baptized because they wanted us to be able to choose what religion we wanted to be. After attending church with Matt for the past few years I decided last year that I wanted to be baptized Episcopalian. When we told the Bishop that I was wanted to get baptized he said how about now. I was really hoping to be baptized before I have the baby so this was prefect for me. Right then and there Bishop Salmon went out and told what was left of the congregation that we were going to be having a baptism and with in minutes they were set up and I was getting baptized. It truly was a special moment for me and also the new rector Fr. Rick since this was his first time ever preforming a baptism. The churched welcomed both Matt and I with open arms and I look forward to attending weekly service there and getting involved in other church activities.
